I. Academic Drawing Competition

A division for those who see the foundation of art in impeccable command of form, tone, and anatomy. Plaster casts, life model, architecture — here fundamental skills are tested, the ones on which all visual creativity is built.

Nominations:

  1. Plaster Head Drawing — the study of classical form, chiaroscuro modelling, and the plasticity of antique models.
  2. Nude Life Drawing — mastery in conveying proportions, anatomy, and the living movement of the human body.
  3. Anatomical Drawing — understanding the structure of the body, studying muscles, bones, and their interaction in movement.
  4. Academic Still Life — mastering composition, tonal relationships, and textures through the depiction of objects.
  5. Architectural Drawing — precision of perspective, rhythm of lines, and the conveyance of space in the depiction of buildings and structures.
  6. Sketches and Studies — speed, expressiveness, and the ability to capture the essential in a brief gesture or movement.
  7. Compositional Sketch — the search for a harmonious solution, the construction of narrative and plasticity in preliminary development.

II. Easel Graphics Competition

This competition features independent graphic works in various techniques — from watercolour to printmaking. Here, not only mastery is valued, but also the originality of the concept, compositional integrity, and expressiveness of the graphic language.

Nominations:

  1. Watercolour — transparency of colour, lightness, aerial perspective, and the spontaneity of a lively brushstroke.
  2. Pastel — velvety texture, soft transitions, and richness of colour in the dry colour technique.
  3. Pencil / Charcoal / Sanguine Drawing — depth of tone, expressiveness of line and stroke in classical graphic materials.
  4. Printmaking (Woodcut, Etching, Lithography) — the art of the printed impression, the contrast of black and white, editioned graphics.
  5. Monotype — a unique impression where chance and improvisation become part of the artistic method.
  6. Mixed Technique in Graphics — the combination of various materials and methods in the search for an authorial graphic language.
  7. Authorial Printmaking — the creation of original impressions, where the technique of the print becomes an independent artistic statement.

III. Book and Applied Graphics Competition

The Book and Applied Graphics Competition includes works related to books, printed materials, and visual communication. Illustrations, posters, calligraphy, typographic compositions — everything where graphics serve a narrative or applied task.

Nominations:

  1. Book Illustration — the union of word and image, where the artist becomes a co-author of a literary work.
  2. Poster and Playbill — the art of attracting attention, where brightness and conciseness of form serve a clear message.
  3. Calligraphy and Lettering — the beauty of writing, where each letter becomes an element of composition and artistic form.
  4. Type Design — the creation of harmonious typographic compositions, where the letter lives as an independent image.
  5. Ex Libris — an elegant miniature, the visual signature of a book's owner, full of symbols and hidden meanings.
  6. Vignette and Ornament — decorative elements that adorn a book, completing and connecting the space of the page.
  7. Graphic Design — the language of visual communication, where graphics serve to create a holistic image: from a business card to a corporate identity.

It is important to participate, interesting to watch, and useful to listen. That is how one can describe the atmosphere of the "Russian Art Week" — a place where creativity, education, and communication merge into a single stream of inspiration. The "Russian Art Week" is not just a competition. It is a map of the contemporary Russian art world, marking all the main directions: from the familiar painting and graphics to bold digital experiments and monumental forms.

In addition to the exhibition and competition programs, the "Russian Art Week" offers participants and guests an extensive educational and business program: master classes and lectures, conferences, business meetings, presentation sessions for authors, and a unique format — the "Art Ring", where leading experts engage in live dialogue about trends and the future of art.
